Hybrid Systems Electrical Engineer

Job Description:

  • Design and develop complex hybrid systems, using a multidisciplinary approach – this will involve broad engineering expertise; including mechanical, electrical, systems, software, and process design.
  • Support component level, sub-system and system level sourcing and testing for performance, reliability and durability. Examples of tests are: fuel cell stacks, fuel cell power modules, humidification devices, DC/DC power conversion devices, batteries, sensors, blowers, pumps, motors, environmental testing (sub-zero and sub-ambient temperature testing), field testing, etc.
  • Develop validation test methods and protocols. Use DOE best practices.
  • Design custom control electronics and software for the control and monitoring of fuel cell systems, electrolyzer systems, battery systems, hydrogen storage systems, and other systems as needed.
  • Integration and field support of designed and validated components into end applications.
  • Schematic layout and component sourcing for complete hybrid systems.
  • Managing of resources and schedules to ensure timely completion of projects and assignments.
  • Printed circuit board design using Altium.
  • Develop control software for microprocessors, specifically for the PIC microprocessor and TMS320 Texas Instruments processors.
  • Hardware and software trouble shooting both in component development and production support roles.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced team environment
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Some mechanical hands on work as required for development work.
  • Other duties as required.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering. Masters degree preferable

Work Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering. Masters degree preferable

‘Must Have’ Technical Skills:

  • Ability to design and set-up electrical and mechanical test fixtures for testing.
  • Ability to develop software for control applications.
  • Experience developing electrical systems for heavy duty mobility (automotive, rail, aerospace) is an asset.
  • Ability to read and design electrical schematics.
  • “Hands on” experience is required.
