Fuel cells offer innovative operational advantages for mobility applications

While today’s vehicles are largely powered by internal combustion engines, many industrial and urban vehicles run on batteries in order to achieve reduced emissions in regulated environments. These battery-powered vehicles, already equipped to run on an electric powertrain, offer an excellent starting platform for the integration of fuel cell technology.

Hydrogenics’ versatile HyPM-HD Fuel Cell Power Modules and HyPX Fuel Cell Power Packs are products of choice for many pioneering OEMs, system integrators and end-users. HyPM-HD is well-suited to ‘full load’ mobility systems as well as hybrid and battery range-extender configurations.

Materials Handling applications have been identified as an important early commercial market for HyPX Power Pack products, specifically where fleets of forklift trucks are being used in multi-shift productivity-driven indoor operations.

Urban transit buses represent another market where Hydrogenics’ HyPM products are being deployed to demonstrate the benefits of clean and efficient fuel cell power technology and, at the same time, raise public awareness at many levels. Many governments around the world are investing in urban bus programs for this purpose, including Hydrogenics’ Midibus project, supported by the European Commission’s HyChain initiative.

Hydrogenics has also been involved in many mobility initiatives in the course of developing the versatility of our HyPM products for future markets.  Go to our Projects page to view videos that show how HyPM is being put to work in a range of mobility applications:
