Urban Buses
In response to unique opportunities in
Europe, primarily as part of the European Commission’s HyChain
initiative, Hydrogenics’ Germany-based system integration team has
developed a fuel cell battery hybrid ‘midibus’ based on a Tecnobus
Gulliver platform.
Compared to the original battery-only
version, the fuel cell hybrid midibus offers several advantages:
Up to
10 hours of operational run-time compared with only 5-6 hours
Easier and
faster recharging, accomplished by hydrogen refueling rather than
battery plug-in stations
Compared
to internal combustion engine buses, the fuel cell hybrid midibus
bus offers additional benefits:
Quiet operation
Zero emissions
The size and operational characteristics of the midibus make
it ideal for a range of applications including stop-and-go central
urban transit routes. The midi bus is particularly suited to old
city areas that have very short, narrow streets bordered by historic
buildings that need to be kept clean from blackening caused by
diesel exhaust.
