A HySTAT60 unit consists of a hydrogen generating unit with our proprietary IMET® cell stack, a control panel with HMI and two power racks with controlled AC/DC conversion to produce hydrogen in a safe and reliable way. The maximum working pressure can be selected to be 10 barg and the gas purity can be up to 99.999%.

With safety and reliability as key priority, every HySTAT™ features:

  • PROFIsafe protocol ensuring a safe shut down in case of control failure (PLC)
  • Fail safe logic for all parameters and inherent safe design (passive safety)
  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) ensuring a safe shutdown in case of power failure
  • Constant monitoring of gas purity (HTO)
  • Minimal gas presence in the system (only few Nm3 at full production)
  • Multiple redundancy on critical safety parameters.

The HySTAT™ H2 production is continuously monitored and rapidly adjusted to meet any actual user requirements. Every system is offered together with startup and commissioning at your site and with a training to provide your operator with the required knowledge to run the system. The HySTAT™ can be equipped with a variety of options.

Hydrogen Purification System (HPS):

The Hydrogen Purification System (HPS) is designed to further purify the hydrogen to a minimum level of 99,998%. Impurities left in H2 will be: <10 ppm O2, <1 ppm H2O, <12 ppm N2, <50 ppb Cx Hx. Thanks to our technology, carbon contaminants are almost non-existent in our process.

Extra purity upgrade to 99.999%:

For special applications like electronics, Hydrogenics can supply additional purification equipment to reach grade 5 hydrogen purity by reducing the O2 and N2 content to 2ppm. Thanks to our technology, carbon contaminants are almost non-existent in our process.

ATEX enclosures:

Each electrolyser skid and hydrogen purification system (HPS) can be installed in an individual ATEX enclosure (compulsory for CE conformity). This enclosure will be equipped with forced ventilation allowing installation in a General purpose area (non-Ex).

Reverse Osmosis System (ROS):

If you don’t have demineralised water available onsite, we  can supply you a reverse osmosis system. The feed water treatment system (wall-mounted) will convert tap water into pure demineralised water needed for the electrolysis process.

Online Purity Measurement with blow off logic:

The H2 produced is continuously monitored in real-time on both water content (‘dew point’) and the oxygen content. This option can only be selected in combination with the HPS. The blow off logic will automatically vent the H2 to atmosphere in case its quality is out of spec.

Cooling system:

In order to cool down the system, a chiller and a dry cooler can be supplied if the required cooling capacity is not available onsite. The chiller will send water through gas heat exchangers, significantly improving the gas purification efficiency. The dry cooler will cool down the electrolyte to maintain the appropriate temperature of the system.

Oxygen use:

As standard the O2 is vented to the atmosphere. Hydrogenics can implement an optional system to clean the O2 and make it available for further use/purification by the customer.

Compression system:

If your process needs higher pressure than the one delivered by the electrolyser, we can offer you complete packages including a compressor. The complete system will then be integrated together, providing simple installation onsite. Depending on the gas requirements we can provide membrane or piston compressors.


In order to provide additional security, you may require some hydrogen storage onsite. Hydrogenics has acquired expertise in providing full packages including storage at medium or high pressure according to the requirements.
